Cisco Wireless Controller

Cisco’s Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) supports a network that functions smoothly across a range of platforms, bringing reliability, security, scalability, ease of deployment, and LAN management. It provides a solid migration path into all major Cisco switching and routing platforms via Cisco wireless LAN controllers.

Cisco has a variety of WLCs with different form factors and features.

  1. Cisco WISM for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 provides unparalleled mobility, security, and redundancy for business-critical wireless LANs. Clustering capabilities of up to 3600 lightweight access points (APs) per roaming domain. Scales up to 300 lightweight APs per module with support for 10,000+ wireless client devices.
  2. The Cisco Catalyst 3750G Integrated Wireless LAN Controller adds wireless LAN controller functions to the stackable and highly resilient Cisco Catalyst 3750G Series switch.
  3. The WLC for Integrated Services Routers allows small to medium-sized businesses and enterprises to cost-effectively deploy and manage secure wireless LANs at branch offices. It manages up to six Cisco Aironet lightweight APs and is supported on Cisco 2800/3800 Series Integrated Services Routers and Cisco 3700 Series Integrated Services Routers.
  4. Cisco 4400 and 2000 Series stand-alone wireless LAN controllers fully integrate with the network infrastructure to deliver enhanced security features, enforce QoS polices, and deliver other mobility services. The capacity of these controllers ranges from six APs with the 2000 Series to 100 APs with the 4400 Series. These controllers can be clustered together to support up to 2400 APs per roaming domain.

All WLCs provide wireless LAN functions, such as integrated IPS, real-time RF management, zero-touch deployment, and N+1 redundancy. These controllers work with lightweight APs and a management device to deliver.
