Dell EMC VNX 5700

The VNX5700 is designed for the high end of the midrange space and can be either block or file in architecture. The predecessor to the VNX 5700 is the NS-480 and the CX4-480. The 5700 uses the SPE form factor which can attach to either a 15 drive, 3.5” DAE 3U form factor or a 25 drive, 2.5” DAE 2 U form factor. The SPE uses Ultra-Flex I/O slots for all connectivity. Each SP in the SPE in the 5700 utilizes a 2.4 GHz Xeon 5600 4-core processor with 18GB of RAM for a total of 36GB RAM between the 2 SPs, and supports a maximum of 500 drives, or 1485TB raw. The blades use a 2.4 GHx 4-core Xeon 5600 processor with 12GB RAM per blade and with a max capacity of 256TB per blade. The management system utilized is Unisphere.

The 5700 supports Raid Levels 0, 1, 10, 3, 5 and 6. The maximum number of pools is 40, with a maximum number of 4,096 LUNS, 16TB LUN size.

The VNX series features FASTCache. FASTCache leverages the lower response time and better IOPS of flash drives without dedicating Flash drives to specific applications. FASTCache addresses a hot spot anywhere in the array improving application performance especially for workloads with frequent and unpredictable large increases in I/O activity for an improved Total Cost of Ownership.

FASTCache useable is calculated with Raid 10. The 5700 has a max of 1.5TB useable using 30 x 100 GB SSDs or 1.4TB using 14 x 200 GB SSDs.
