Dell EMC VNX 7500

The VNX7500 is designed for the enterprise space and can be either block or file in architecture. The predecessor to the VNX7500 is the NX-960 and the CX4-960. The 7500 uses the SPE form factor and connects to the first DAE in either a 15 drive, 3.5” 3U form factor or a 25 drive, 2.5” 2 U form factor.

Each SP in the 7500 utilizes a 2.8 GHz Xeon 5600 6-core processor with either 24 or 48GB RAM per blade and supports a maximum of 1000 drives, or 2,970 TB raw. The blades use a 2.8 GHx 6-core Xeon 5600 processor with 24GB RAM per blade and with a max capacity of 256TB per blade. The management system utilized is Unisphere.

The 7500 supports Raid Levels 0, 1, 10, 3, 5 and 6. The maximum number of pools is 60, with a maximum number of 8,192 LUNS, 16TB LUN size.

The VNX series features FASTCache. FASTCache leverages the lower response time and better IOPS of flash drives without dedicating Flash drives to specific applications. FASTCache addresses a hot spot anywhere in the array improving application performance especially for workloads with frequent and unpredictable large increases in I/O activity for an improved Total Cost of Ownership.

FASTCache useable is calculated with Raid 10. The 7500 has a max of useable of 2.1TB using 42 x 100GB SSD drives or 2TB using 20 x 200GB SSD drives.
