On this episode of Ask the Expert, Curvature’s Global Logistics Manager, Kris Pabico, joins Christine Austria to discuss Curvature Logistics as a Service, or CLaaS.
Christine: Hi everyone! My name is Christine Austria and welcome back to another episode of “Ask the Expert.” Let’s kick things with one of our hardware services, Curvature Logistics as a Service, with our Global Logistics Manager, Kris Pabico. Welcome Kris – great to have you here!
Kris: Thanks, Christine! I’m excited to be here.
What is CLaaS?
Christine: Well, let’s start off with something basic. What is CLaaS and what does this service entail?
Kris: CLaaS, or Curvature Logistics as a Service, is a comprehensive solution for managing IT asset logistics. Our service includes: Secure relocation of IT equipment from one location to another — domestically or internationally, warehousing inventory until it’s ready for deployment, and testing and configuring equipment to ensure that it’s fully operational before delivery at its destination.
Equipment Relocation Challenges
Christine: Okay, so CLaaS basically simplifies every aspect of IT logistics. Can you talk about some common challenges companies face when relocating IT Assets?
Kris: Yeah, sure. Relocating IT assets can be very complex. A simple task becomes complex when the equipment is high-value, and we have to guarantee that it arrives undamaged. And then you add international shipping in the mix – that requires export and import permits, customs clearance, and duties and taxes calculations and payments.
Christine: That sounds complicated and a lot of work! How does CLaaS overcome these challenges?
Kris: It is a lot of work, and it requires a ton of knowledge. CLaaS manages the entire process on behalf of our clients. We have the expertise and network to make sure that we’re always efficient and compliant with anything logistics-related.
Christine: How does Curvature select and collaborate with carriers to make sure that relocation of IT equipment is safe?
Kris: Well, we work with a global network of specialized logistics partners, who are also certified internationally, and are experts in shipping and handling IT equipment. And these are the same partners we trust when it comes to our own customer orders. We have strict packaging and shipping standards, and we only work with partners who follow the same procedures.
Curvature Logistics as a Service Process
Christine: Okay, this is a ton of really important information, but I have one more question for you. How does CLaaS handle potential challenges during the transportation process?
Kris: With CLaaS, every logistics project begins with a thorough assessment of lead times and delivery expectations based on destination. For international shipments, we work closely with customs authorities in the importing country – every jurisdiction has unique requirements. These details are included in a customized quote we provide our customers. We also proactively address potential delays and we’re always communicating timelines clearly to our customers no matter what the destination.
Christine: Thanks, Kris, for sharing with us the complexities of logistics and giving our customers a simple option through CLaaS.
